Silver Class - Class teacher Mrs Lewis

We are looking forward to showing you some of the activities that Silver Class will be doing this term; in the meantime this is one of the activities last year's Silver Class did in the summer term.

This term in DT Silver Class have been looking at shelters.  We have looked at Air Raid shelters such as Andersen or Morrison shelters that were used inthe Second World War.  We have also looked at shelters such as wig-wams, tents, bus shelters and houses.

We thought about how strong each of these shelters were, and how well they protected the people inside from water and wind.

We were then set a challenge - to build a shelter for the Lego family.  Each shelter must be able to

1. support a 1kg weight without collapsing and killing the family

2. keep the figures dry when 200ml of water is poured on it

3. withstand a 30 second blast from an electric fan.

We were only allowed to use:

2 cereal boxes, 4 loo roll middles and 1 other piece of packaging, as well as tin foil, straws, tape and paper to hold it together.

This is us making the shelters.
